Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has revealed that the command has been collaborating with the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) at the division, area command, state, and national levels to ensure a safe society.
As part of the events commemorating the group’s 41st anniversary, CP Adepoju made the revelation on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, when members of PCRC, Rivers command, led by its Chairman, Voke Emore, paid the Rivers Police helmsman a courtesy call at his office on Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, Police headquarters.
“Is very rare to see people bringing themselves out to serve humanity and to also synergize between the Police and members of the community.
“I want you to continue in that light,God has a way of blessing people who are kind to others.I know you appreciate what we do.The passion with which you use to assist the Police in every way and also making sure that the members of the public feel we are not the negative side of what people think we are.
“Alot of people dont know if there is blood in the vein of Police officers.They are always afraid thinking we are only for crime,arresting people and pursuing people.You have made them to know we are equally the same as they are,the only difference is that we are on uniform.
“We have being partnering to do alot of things.Continue to encourage others to join the PCRC and let them see why,they need to join you to assist us to be able to serve you.
“We are working together to make our environment safe.Dont be discouraged,we appreciate you” CP Adepoju said
Life begins at forty, according to a common saying, said Voke Emore, the chairman of the PCRC in Rivers state.If so, we can presume that season 41 would mark the start of a new one.
“Indeed,this marks a new beginning for us in PCRC.A partnership that has endured for forty one years may be described as a successful one by any standard.
“As the saying goes,security is everyone business .We will continue to play our role in building trust between the Police and the community component.
“Going forward,therefore,we equally continue to pledge to even do more to build on the trust already established so the average person will have confidence in the Police to deliver.
“Police is your friend is a mantra we intend to make real as we continue to forge ahead in this partnership”.
The event’s high point was when Mr. Emore, acting on behalf of the group, gave the Rivers CP a gift and a book detailing the PCRC, Rivers command’s activities from 2023 to the present.
Additionally, the Rivers PCRC paid a visit to Professor Alabo S.J.S. Cookey, the first Chairman of Rivers Command, at his home in Port Harcourt.
According to our correspondent, the 41st anniversary of PCRC began on April 20th at the divisional level, April 23 at the state level, and May 7, 2025, at the national level.
