Angered by the increasing attacks by suspected herdsmen on Ogoni communities in Rivers State, a group of concerned Ogonis, led by Comrade Imeabe Saviour Oscar, has announced plans to mobilise residents for a mass protest against the ongoing violence.
The protest is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt.
Last week, suspected herdsmen reportedly killed Mr. Dimkpa Goodluck, an indigene of Ueken community, while he was working on his farm in Tai Local Government Area, sparking widespread outrage among the Ogoni people.
Oscar, who serves as the Publicity Secretary of the Olu Andah Wai-Ogosu-led Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) and Chairman of the Coalition of Rivers State Youth Bodies, said the people of Ogoniland can no longer remain silent in the face of increasing violence and insecurity allegedly perpetrated by Fulani herdsmen.
He cited recent attacks in Nyokuru, Ebubu, Sogho, and Ueken communities in Khana, Eleme, and Tai councils, noting that the loss of innocent lives in those areas has exhausted the community’s patience.
In response to the killings, the group is calling for a peaceful protest to urge authorities to take action in protecting lives and property in Ogoniland.
Oscar stated that the protest aims to pressure the government to implement immediate and decisive measures to end the herdsmen attacks.
He demanded increased security presence in the affected areas and justice for the victims and their families, while urging all genuine supporters and indigenes of Ogoni to join the protest.
