Hoodlums suspected to be vandals broke into offices at Community Secondary School Rumuekini in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area over the weekend and carted away a generator, laptops, and other valuables.
A staff member who spoke on condition of anonymity, as they were not authorised to speak on the matter, told our correspondent that the vandals gained access to more than four offices and stole several valuable items.
The source said both students and staff were shocked when they arrived at school on Monday, June 30, 2025, and discovered the incident.
It was gathered that the school lacks overnight security, as the security personnel only work from 7 a.m. until the close of school.
Sources also confirmed that the incident has been reported to the Choba Police Division, and some detectives have been dispatched to the school for an on-the-spot assessment and preliminary investigation.
The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, was yet to respond to inquiries from our reporter as of press time.
