The Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, arraigned one Collins Musa Inu Umor before Justice Daniel Osiagor of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, on a two-count charge bordering on fraudulent impersonation.
One of the charges reads: “That you, COLLINS MUSA INU UMOR, between September 2024 and June 2025 in Lagos, within the Judicial Division of this Honourable Court, directly made a false statement, wherein you held yourself out as a white woman ‘MIA KHALIFA’ on your Twitter account, knowing same to be false and with intent that the representation is relied upon for the purpose of procuring the issuance of financial instrument to yourself and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 22(3) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Act, 2015.”
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Following his plea, prosecution counsel, Fanen Anum, requested a trial date and prayed the court to remand the defendant in a correctional centre.
Defence counsel, Abdullahi Tony Daniel, informed the court of a motion on notice dated July 2, 2025, seeking bail for the defendant. He stated that the defendant is a student from a reputable family and asked the court to release him pending the perfection of his bail. He added that the deponent to the bail affidavit, a businessman, was present in court.
Justice Osiagor granted the defendant bail in the sum of N5,000,000 and one surety in like sum. The surety must be a relative of the defendant, have a verifiable means of livelihood, and deposit two passport photographs with the court’s registrar.
The defendant was released to his lawyer pending the perfection of his bail conditions. The matter was adjourned to November 25, 2025, for commencement of trial.
