The Rivers State Police Command has announced the arrest of a suspected cultist, 36-year-old Diseye Ukulu, a native of Bayelsa State residing at No. 25 Nnewi Street, Diobu, Port Harcourt.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Superintendent of Police Grace Iringe Koko, Ukulu was apprehended on July 9, 2025, around 6:20 p.m. during an intelligence-led operation by a combined team from the Special Operations and Intelligence Team (SOIT), Hawk Tactical Squad, and Anti-Cultism Unit (ACU), in collaboration with local vigilante members.
The operation targeted the ongoing inter-confraternity clashes between the D12 and BS cult groups, both affiliated with the notorious Deygbam cult group. The groups have been linked to several violent incidents and killings in the Diobu area of Port Harcourt.
Following Ukulu’s confession, police operatives raided the residence of another suspect, identified as Achionu Solomon Chukwuma, also known as Solex, where they recovered several dangerous items concealed in a black bag. The recovered items include one Scorpion VZ61 submachine gun, one fabricated English-made Beretta pistol, 20 rounds of 5.56mm live ammunition, two rounds of 9mm live ammunition, and one pair of sunglasses disguised as a screwdriver.
SP Koko confirmed that both the suspect and the recovered exhibits are currently in police custody. She added that a thorough investigation is underway to track down other members of the cult group.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, has reiterated the Command’s commitment to eradicating crime in the state. He urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to assist the police in their ongoing efforts.
