A violent altercation between two men in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State has resulted in the death of one of the parties involved.
The deceased, Ekopimo Effiong Moses, a 34-year-old community youth president, died after sustaining severe injuries during a fight with Joseph Okon Eren, a 37-year-old man from Uruan Local Government Area.
It was gathered that the altercation occurred on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at approximately 6:00 pm, following a disagreement between the two men.
The situation escalated into a physical fight, with both men using machetes. Ekopimo Effiong Moses was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty.
However, a Statement issued by the Akwa Ibom Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John in Uyo, said that the suspect, Eren, has been arrested and a machete believed to be the weapon used in the incident recovered.
John said the body of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue, and a discreet investigation has been launched into the matter.
The statement reads, “The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the death of a man following a violent altercation in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area.
“On Thursday, September 11, 2025, at approximately 6:00PM, Operatives of the Command received a report from a village head (name withheld).
“The village head stated that the community youth president, Ekopimo Effiong Moses, a 34-year-old male, had a misunderstanding with Joseph Okon Eren, a 37-year-old male who resides in the village but is originally from Ikot Obiondobo in Uruan LGA.
“The disagreement escalated into a physical fight, during which both men used machetes. Ekopimo Effiong Moses sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the Hospital for urgent medical treatment. He was later pronounced dead by the doctor on duty.
“The suspect, Joseph Okon Eren, has been arrested and is currently in police custody. A machete, believed to be the weapon used in the incident, has been recovered. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue.
“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has launched a discreet investigation into the matter. Further details will be released as the investigation progresses,” it added.
