Youth Protest, Barricade Federal Road Over Alleged Killing Of Native

Normal vehicular movement was disrupted along Omagwa Federal Road in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State on Sunday,9th February 2025, as Youth of the community in their numbers barricaded the road in protest of the shooting and killing of one Bright Egbule by a Police Officer attached to the Omagwa Police Division on Saturday night.
The protesting youth who carried placards with different inscriptions, ‘We demand Justice’ and ‘Enough is Enough’, first matched to the Omagwa Police Division and kept the corpse of the deceased in front of the station, chanting solidarity songs.
The Youth barricaded the Police Station and the Federal road for hours before intervention by well-meaning individuals and the Police Authority in the state who pleaded that justice would be done.
In the meantime, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe Koko, has confirmed the incident.
SP Koko disclosed that the Rivers State Police command is aware of the incident, and the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, is on top of the situation.
” Normalcy has now been restored, and adequate security is present on the ground to prevent any breach of peace.
“The corpse has been deposited at the morgue while the police officer who allegedly shot the man dead has been detained while the investigation is ongoing”, SP Koko said.
