Breaking : Mojisola Meranda Resigns As Speaker Lagos HoA

Bianca Iboma, Lagos

In a surprising turn of events, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, has tendered her resignation just seven weeks after assuming office. Her resignation was officially announced during the House plenary session on Monday.

Meranda, who was appointed as Speaker following the leadership changes within the Assembly, expressed gratitude to her colleagues for their support during her brief tenure. She stated that her decision to step down was in accordance with party directives and in the best interest of the legislative body.

During the plenary session, lawmakers took turns to commend her leadership style, acknowledging her efforts in fostering unity and stability within the Assembly. They praised her for her commitment to peace and her ability to maintain a harmonious working relationship among members despite the challenges of the position.

Several legislators also applauded Meranda’s strength and humility, particularly her unwavering dedication to upholding the rules and regulations of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the ruling party in Lagos State. They emphasised that her actions reflected discipline and loyalty to party structures, reinforcing the importance of party supremacy in governance.

While no official reason has been publicly stated beyond party alignment, political analysts speculate that her resignation may be linked to internal power dynamics within the Assembly and the APC’s ongoing strategic repositioning in Lagos State politics.

As the House prepares to elect a new Speaker, there is widespread anticipation regarding the leadership transition and how it will shape the legislative agenda moving forward.
