Operational Misconduct: FRSC Corps Marshal Condemns Ondo Sector Commander, Invokes Sanctions

In a significant move to maintain operational integrity and safety standards, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has sanctioned the Ondo State Sector Commander following the emergence of a troubling video that has gained traction on social media. The footage depicts a patrolling vehicle belonging to the sector visibly operating with a severely worn-out tire, raising serious concerns about safety protocols and operational negligence.
The viral clip sparked immediate backlash from citizens and safety advocates alike, who expressed outrage over the evident disregard for vehicular safety standards, especially from an agency tasked with ensuring road safety across Nigeria. In response to the public outcry, the Corps Marshal of the FRSC,
Dr Marshal, Shehu Mohammened the actions of the sector commander, emphasising the importance of upholding the highest standards of safety and professionalism within the agency.
“The safety of our roads and the lives of the citizens we serve is non-negotiable,” Dr. Mohammed stated in a press briefing held earlier today. “The lapse demonstrated by the Ondo Sector Command is unacceptable, and we will not tolerate any form of negligence that endangers road users.”
The affected sector commander will undergo a mandatory retraining program to reinforce the agency’s operational standards and safety protocols as part of the sanctions imposed. Additionally, an internal review of the maintenance procedures for all patrol vehicles will be conducted to prevent similar incidents.
Dr. Mohammed reiterated the FRSC’s commitment to ensuring that its officers embody the values of diligence and responsibility, and he urged all personnel to prioritize road safety in their operations. “If our officers are to effectively promote safety on our roads, they must first exemplify these standards in their own practices,” he added.
The FRSC has also encouraged members of the public to report any irregularities or infractions by its officers, emphasising that accountability is essential for upholding the agency’s mission of reducing road traffic accidents and promoting safe driving practices across the country.

While we commend the public for their watchdog role over the services we provide, it is important to state without any delay that this act completely negates the core values and standard operating procedures for maximum safety for all operational and administrative vehicles of the Corps.
As such, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, condemns in totality the use of the worn-out tyre on the FRSC vehicle and has ordered immediate sanction of the Sector Commander under whose operational jurisdiction the contravention of safety standards was registered. He further stressed that the Corps has zero tolerance for any form of negation of standards and does not condone any form of compromise against its core values.
In addition to the sanction, the Corps Marshal also ordered that the vehicle be booked for infraction, and the Sector Commander made to pay the fines for negligence.
It is, therefore, apt to remind the motoring public that the Federal Road Safety Corps remains a pacesetter amongst agencies in Nigeria for high-level observance of quality standards, especially when it comes to vehicle maintenance, and will continue to enhance the mileages achieved in that regard over the years.
The Management of the Corps will continue to play its supervisory role over the field Commands with diligent commitment while the Commanding Officers are expected to uphold the ideals of the Corps accordingly.
