Police Intercept Vehicle, Recover Firearm In Akwa Ibom

Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command intercepted a Mercedes Benz C300 with a customized plate number FORBES JR during a stop-and-search operation in Ikot Ekpene and recovered a firearm in the process.
A statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, on Thursday said the vehicle, which was flagged down for routine checks at the Control Post, was found to contain a locally fabricated firearm and two live cartridges.
It said the operation took place at the Control Post in Ikot Ekpene as part of the Command’s intensified stop-and-search strategy to rid Akwa Ibom State of illegal firearms and criminal elements.
The Statement reads in parts, “In a determined effort to rid Akwa Ibom State of illegal firearms and criminal elements, operatives of the Command intercepted a Mercedes Benz C300 with customized plate number FORBES JR, leading to the recovery of a locally fabricated firearm and two live cartridges.
The operation, which took place at the Control Post in Ikot Ekpene, was part of the Command’s intensified stop-and-search strategy, which aims to curb crime and enhance public safety.
The vehicle, which was flagged down for routine checks, had three male occupants who identified themselves as: Nsisong Paul Okon, 27, native of Itak Village, Ikono LGA, Francis Forbes, 62, of Ikot Akpa Edok Ndiya Village, Ikono LGA, Prince Forbes, 27, of Ikot Akpa Edok Ndiya Village, Ikono LGA
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Baba M. Azare, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the matter, reaffirming the Command’s zero tolerance for unlawful possession of firearms.
He said the Command remains resolute in ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.
