National Police Day: Rivers CP Leads Officers On Community Service

As part of activities marking National Police Day, the Commissioner in Rivers State, CP Olugbenga Adepoju led officers of the command, members of Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC, and Honourary Members of Mess on community servive on April 5, 2025.
The Rivers Police Command took their community service to creek road market, Mile 1 Park, Azikiwe Road, etc. Addressing journalists at creek road market, CP Adepoju said, “National Police Day started on the 2nd April, 2025.
“We are showcasing ourselves before the members of the public. We are building trust and confidence to make the public know that we are just like them. We are people in the society who wear uniform to protect their lives and property. We want them to know that we exist and we have flesh and blood like them.
“We are going round to walk and present ourselves sweep all the areas we feel is dirty for them to know it is not only policing or prevention of crime we do, we still serve the community by cleaning their environment and synergizing with them.
“We started the program on 2nd with church program, we have had lectures with the members of the community and other stakeholders. We are carrying out free medicals for the members of the public and equally Police family.
“We want to build trust and confidence in the people, this is the first of it’s kind. We are starting the National Police Day, it is the directive from the IGP. I want the residents to know we are for them, we want to build confidence with them to trust us, we will continue to serve and protect them. The public should know we are free to dialogue with.
“We will continue to this every year. The public should see us as part of them, continue to synergies and relate with us, Police is your friend. “

The synergy between police and the community is getting better and stronger, more understanding, better policing, the community should not be afraid to come to the police at anytime.
“This exercise is one of it’s kind, coming to creek road market which is one of the biggest market in Port Harcourt, Aba road, to sweep is quite commendable.I want to assure the people that the hardworking CP and officers of men and women have shown that they are willing to partner with the community.
“We are partners with the police to bridge the gap between the community and the police, this is what we have been agitating for and now you see it happening that the people and police are actually coming together to do things together”.
Our correspondents reports that the Deputy Commissioner of Police Administration and finance, Samuel Erale other senior officers took part in community service.
