NNPC PMS Price Increment, Independent Marketers Sets To Quite.

With the new increment  of PMS reflecting on the NNPC Retail portal adjusting upward, energy expert and former IPMAN Chairman Rivers state Joseph Obele speaking to Journalists stated the reasons for the new buying rate for marketer’s within Port Harcourt.

“The new buying rate for Marketers within Port Harcourt catchment area is now #1,045 per litre as against the rate of #876 it was before today,  while marketers in Lagos will now buy at a new rate #1,010 per litre.”

“It is important for the general public to understand marketers buying rate is different from Marketers selling rate at filling stations. The Ex-depot price is the rate marketers buy from NNPC, after which Marketers will add a mark up based on over head expenses and Operating cost”

Obele mentioned that this new fuel increment might have been triggered by the withdrawal of NNPC as a middleman from Dangota Refinery Supply chain and that the decision was to end exclusive purchasing agreement with Dangote refinery which will allow other marketers to buy petrol directly, and promoting a more deregulated market.

IPMAN Former Chairman stated the inconsistencies of price in various locations across the nation and been a pointer to failure of current leadership of  the Nigeria labour Congress (NLC).

“This implies that the National oil company will no longer cover the price gap between the facility’s price and the selling price to retailers, previously absorbing a subsidy of N133 per litre. The product which sold for N897 in Abuja, the nation’s capital, currently is  selling for N1,030 as at today. In Lagos, fuel which previously sold for N885 per litre is now being sold above #1000.”

“The vulnerability of Nigerians regarding frequent increment of PMS is a clear indication of the failure of the current leadership of Nigeria Labour Congress.”

Dr Obele expressed his displeasure to the turn out of events stating that a better route should have been used.

“Citizens of Nigeria are defenseless and voiceless, otherwise it could have been impossible for the federal government to increase fuel price on three occasions within one year. It is quite unfortunate. The recent increment of PMS is the last bus stop and end fuel subsidy era in Nigeria as the new rate is zero Subsidy cost. The new selling rate of PMS is corresponding to the rate of which Dangote will be selling to Marketers “

“Regrettably, the new increment of PMS will further worsen the biting inflation in Nigeria as prices of other commodities will definitely experience upward review in coming days. This will result to an increased rate of unemployment.  Above all, majority of Petroleum Marketers will be out of business and workers sacked for inability to raise the recent capital for purchasing one truck of PMS.”

“The inability of Marketers to raise capital due to the recent increment will make 10,000 Marketers quit business, and at such those Marketers will sack over one million direct and indirect Staff. The Nigeria Economy looks hopeless and it is becoming tougher every day”.

All the these is happening to us as a nation because we are not talking as a people, i think we are not yet feeling the pains,  when the pains becomes unbearable, then we will speak out as a people.
