The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained 47 individuals suspected of internet fraud in Benin City, Edo State, and has confiscated luxury cars, laptops, and smartphones during the operation.
This well-planned action, executed by the Benin Zonal Directorate on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, followed several weeks of careful intelligence gathering and involved a large-scale raid.
The suspects, who are believed to be engaged in various online scams, were apprehended at different locations throughout the city.
Among the items seized were five high-end vehicles, showcasing the extravagant lifestyles funded by their illegal activities, as well as multiple smartphones and laptops thought to be used for their cyber fraud schemes.
The EFCC reported that the arrests were made after successfully linking the suspects to a broader network of online criminals who deceive unsuspecting victims.
These arrests highlight the EFCC’s commitment to fighting fraud and serve as a clear warning that cybercrime will not be tolerated.
Reports indicate that the suspects are currently under investigation and are expected to face charges in court once all necessary procedures are finalized.
