The Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has been charged by Vice President Kashim Shettima with advancing fiscal balance throughout the federation.
The Vice President spoke during the 2025 retreat for the newly inaugurated members of the RMAFC in Uyo on Monday.
“Comprehending the Function of the Fiscal Commission and Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission and other Stakeholders/Agencies in Nation Building” is the theme of the event.
He asserts that RMAFC can significantly contribute to economic stabilization and the enhancement of Nigerians’ quality of life by fostering fiscal balance.
The work of RMAFC has a direct impact on the federation’s fiscal stability and unity, according to Shettima, who was represented by Mr. Ibrahim Natagwandu, his Technical Adviser to the on Public Debt Management and Revenue Mobilization.
According to him, the retreat is still necessary to support the current administration’s economic reform efforts.
“Be that as it may, this retreat is more than an orientation; it is a call to national service at a time when our country is undergoing major reforms aimed at repositioning the economy and optimizing our revenue generation through improved tax systems.”The RMAFC occupies a critical place in this journey, as its work directly impacts the fiscal health and cohesion of our Federation.”I urge each Member of the Commission to view your appointment not as a p rivilege, but as a responsibility to uphold transparency, fairness, and efficiency in the discharge of your constitutional mandate.
“You are the custodians of a system that ensures equity among the three tiers of government and promotes fiscal balance across the Federation, he added.
The purpose of the three-day retreat, according to RMAFC Chairman Dr. Muhammad Shehu, is to equip members to effectively carry out the Commission’s mandates and support national development.
He pointed out that the commission is in a good position to guarantee that fiscal federalism is a living, breathing tool for progress and unity rather than merely a constitutional ideal.
Shehu promised to “ensure that the Commission will work diligently with dedication and patriotism with all stakeholders to ensure fiscal wellbeing of the nation and always work in the best interest of the three tiers of government and the nation at large.”
Governor Umo Eno expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the nation’s economic reforms, pointing out that they have enabled states to obtain additional federation account funding.
In order for the country’s current reforms to be successful, he urged the Commission to keep backing President Tinubu’s administration.
