The cult war ravaging the Diobu axis of Port Harcourt, Rivers state, has taken another dimension on Wednesday night, June 4, 2025, as a suspected faction of Deygbam cult groups killed Mr Sango, a member of the local vigilante at Echue street, Mile 2 axis of Mile 2 Diobu, we learnt.
We gathered that the member of the local vigilante was ambushed along Echue Street, Mile 2 Diobu, Port Harcourt, at about 10:00 pm at night, where he was intercepted and shot dead by suspected rival Deygbam cult groups.
Sources knowledgeable on the incident told our reporter that the deceased is suspected to be a member of one of the houses of Deygbam cult groups engaged in supremacy battle in Port Harcourt for over weeks now, despite being a member of the vigilante group.
We also learnt that a young lady who came to visit her brother at Mile 1 axis of Diobu, Port Harcourt, was reportedly killed by a stray bullet on Wednesday night as the suspected cultists engaged in a shootout.
When contacted, the public relations officer for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe Koko, said she would get back to us but had yet to do so at press time.
Members of the vigilante outfit, who pleaded anonymity, confirmed the killing of their colleague by suspected cultists to our reporter.
Recall that last Sunday night, a taxi driver identified as Barnabas was shot dead by suspected cultists at his frontage in Echue Street, Mile 2, Diobu. Two weeks ago, alleged cult groups took control of the Education bus stop in Ikwerre Road, Port Harcourt, where they engaged in a shootout for several minutes.
Last month, a member of one of the Deygbam cult faction, identified as Ishie, was killed at the railway axis, Mile 1 Diobu of Port Harcourt.
