A/Ibom Council Chair launches immunisation exercise to reduce infant mortality

The Chairman of Ikono Local Government Area, Engr. Oto-Obong Essien has flagged off the “Big Catch-Up Routine Immunization Intensification Exercise,” which aims to reduce infant mortality rates in the area.
On Wednesday, the Chairman launched the exercise at the Primary Health Centre in Ibiaku Ntok Okpo, Ikono LGA.
Essien, the first female elected executive chairman of Ikono Local Government Area, reiterated her commitment to running an inclusive, people-centric administration aligned with Governor Pastor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda.
She said the initiative prioritises the health sector to reduce mortality rates.
During the exercise, Engr. Essien urged caregivers to ensure their children are immunised and encouraged Ikono residents to enroll in the National Health Insurance Scheme, noting that “A healthy citizen is a wealthy citizen”.
She emphasised that the state governor is passionate about the people’s well-being, and she will be happy to see children in sound health.
The Director of Health Services, Ikono, Mrs. Edo Asuquo, explained that the exercise aims to reach unimmunised children, particularly those missed during the COVID-19 pandemic, and conduct routine medical checks for pregnant mothers.
She noted that early vaccination prevents children from contracting dangerous diseases.
