The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially unveiled its coalition in Akwa Ibom State, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the state’s politics.
The ceremony, themed “Reclaiming Democracy & Empowering the People,” was held in Uyo, over the weekend and was attended by distinguish leaders, stakeholders, and citizens.
In his welcome address, the ADC’s state chairman, Duke Dick, emphasised the need to reclaim democracy in Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria, citing the struggles of families under economic hardship, insecurity, and lack of opportunities.
According to him, ADC aims to build a movement of inclusion, transparency, and accountability, with a vision of a Nigeria and Akwa Ibom where democracy is a right and responsibility of every citizen.
He stated that the party’s ideology is based on eclectic pragmatism, taking the best ideas from both sides and applying them with wisdom to real problems.
“We are gathered here not just to wave a flag or to take photographs, but to send a clear and unshakable message: that democracy in Akwa Ibom and in Nigeria must be reclaimed, renewed, and re-anchored in the will of the people.
“Our mission is to break the chains of corruption and exclusion. To give voice to the youth, to empower women, to mobilize the diaspora, and to unite our diversity into strength.
“Our ideology is eclectic pragmatism meaning we do not cling to empty dogmas. We take the best ideas, left or right, and apply them with wisdom to the real problems of our people. We are pragmatic, people-oriented, and results-driven.”
Dick called on citizens to rise above tribalism and division, reject money politics, and vote with courage and conscience.
He said the party envisions an Akwa Ibom State where politics is clean, leadership is accountable, and development is people-centered.
On his part, the leader of the ADC in Akwa Ibom State, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe has called on the leadership and supporters of the coalition to close ranks and ensure their candidates emerge victorious at the 2027 polls.
He urged the ADC to field credible and quality candidates for different offices, noting that such would boost the coalition’s chances of winning in the elections.
Our correspondent reports that the highpoint was the official unveiling of the ADC flag by the members of the Young Progressives Party, (YPP), Labour Party (LP), Action Alliance (AA), Allegiance for Transformation Movement (ATM) and among several other parties.
