The Akwa Ibom Police Command says it has successfully foiled a planned kidnapping operation targeting key personnel in Eket Local Government Area of the State.
The Command stated that in a coordinated operation, police operatives arrested six suspected kidnappers on May 6, 2025.
This was contained in a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John made available to newsmen in Uyo on Thursday.
According to the statement, one Joseph Alafia, was apprehended in Oron Town, leading to further raids on two locations in Afia Nsit and Eket.
Other suspects arrested include Oyibo Ayibakumo Brown (Bayelsa State), Wisdom Harry (Rivers State), Afanye Igonikon (Rivers State), Dare Olaniyi (Ogun State), and Tita Mercy Masume (Cameroon).
The statement reads: “Following credible information regarding a planned kidnapping, targeting key personnel within Eket. A coordinated operation led to the apprehension of six suspected kidnappers.
“Acting on the information, Operatives of the Command mobilized assets, resulting in the arrest of one Joseph Alafia, a male, in Oron Town on May 6, 2025.
“This initial arrest further led to raids on two locations in Afia Nsit Eket. These operations, jointly conducted by the Command’s Operatives, resulted in the arrest of others.
“During the operation, authorities recovered a Lexus RX 300 vehicle with identification plate number KMR 491 AE, gray and ash in color, suspected to be used for kidnapping activities, along with five mobile phones.
“The arrested suspects are believed to be connected to recent kidnapping incidents within Eket and are currently undergoing intensive interrogation.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare fsi, has commended the vigilance and swift action of the Police Officers for a successful Operation. The Command reiterates its commitment to maintaining Law and Order and ensuring the safety and security of all residents of Akwa Ibom State,” the statement added.
