AON Reverses ‘No Fly’ Life Ban on Ibom Air Passenger After Showing Remorse and Government Intervention

By Emamuzo Iboma

The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has officially lifted the lifetime ‘No Fly’ ban imposed on Comfort Emmanson for unruly conduct aboard Ibom Air Flight QI 513 from Uyo to Lagos on August 10, 2025.

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, the AON announced that the decision came after the intervention of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo. The body highlighted that, after considering all circumstances—including Emmanson’s remorse, withdrawal of complaints, and her release from custody—they have decided to revoke the ban, emphasizing their commitment to aviation safety.

The AON emphasized the importance of ongoing training for Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel and airline staff on managing disruptive passengers. They urged relevant aviation agencies to commence public sensitization campaigns on the dangers and legal consequences of unruly behavior at airports and onboard aircraft, referencing sections of the Civil Aviation Act, 2022, and the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations, 2023.

The statement clarified that unruly behavior includes actions such as assaulting or threatening crew members, using electronic gadgets against instructions, smoking in prohibited areas, fighting, causing nuisance, disobeying lawful instructions, endangering flight safety, or tampering with aircraft equipment.

The body reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on disruptive conduct and called on passengers to follow proper channels if they have grievances. All members are encouraged to participate in retraining sessions aimed at better handling unruly situations, aligning with the government’s initiatives to enhance aviation safety.
