The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oloyede, has promised to look into the welfare challenges facing soldiers and their families in the 6 Division, Nigerian Army.
Lt. Gen. Oloyede, who went round the Division to assess the needs of troops, assured the soldiers and their families that their needs would adequately addressed.
He gave the assurance during a 3-day working visit at the 6 Division Nigerian Army Headquarters in Port Harcourt.
The Army Chief said, “I am in 6 Division area of responsibility primarily to access the operational readiness of the division, as well as examine the level of my soldiers welfare, because I am very particular about the well-being of my soldiers and their families.
“I have gone round the division and I very well know their challenges and I am going to address those challenges within the ambits of resources available to me as the leader of the army, because I promised my soldiers that I am going to do my very best with support from the federal government to make life better for them.
“That is why I came here and I think my purpose has been achieved.”
He used the opportunity of the visit to commission key projects executed within the division.
The commissioned projects include the 6 Division Headquarters Administrative Block Extension, Python Harmony House, 6 Division Headquarters main gate and the 6 Division Garrison Guard Room.
Others are the newly constructed Corporal Below Quarters (2 Blocks), renovated 10 Family Corporal Below Quarters and the remodelled 29 Battalion Quarter Guard.
