The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) has called on Russia and Ukraine to prioritise peace and dialogue in their ongoing conflict.
The institute’s appeal comes amid escalating tensions and violence between the two nations, which have resulted in significant human suffering and destabilisation in the region.
IPCR, in a statement signed by its Director General, Dr. Joseph Ochogwu, expressed concern on Monday. The IPCR noted that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine has far-reaching consequences, impacting not only the two nations but also the broader international community.
The IPCR emphasised that a peaceful resolution to the conflict is essential to prevent further humanitarian crises and promote regional stability.
It urged both parties to engage in meaningful dialogue, focusing on finding mutually acceptable solutions to their differences. It added that the conflict’s complexities require a nuanced approach, taking into account the concerns and interests of all parties involved.
It, however, encouraged the international community to support peace efforts, promoting a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
It insisted that: “Diplomatic initiatives and economic incentives can play a crucial role in encouraging both parties to engage in dialogue and work towards a mutually beneficial solution.”
The IPCR noted that the humanitarian situation in Ukraine remains dire, with many civilians affected by the conflict, and called for unhindered access to humanitarian assistance, ensuring that those in need receive the support they require. Director General of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), Dr. Joseph Ochogwu has extended sympathies to the families of the victims affected by the recent devastating flooding in Niger State, Nigeria.
The flood, which occurred on May 29, 2025, has been reported to have claimed over 150 lives and displaced thousands of people, leaving many families without homes, livelihoods, or access to necessities.
The flooding, suspected to have resulted from the release of water from the Kainji Dam, has brought untold hardship to the people of Niger State.
The affected communities are in dire need of humanitarian assistance, including food, shelter, medical care, and emotional support. The IPCR, in a condolence message, recognised the severity of the situation and the immense challenges faced by the victims and their families. It expressed sadness over the loss of lives and property, emphasising the need for collective action to support the affected communities.
The IPCR called for empathy and solidarity in times of crisis, stating that the flooding in Niger State has, however, underscored the need for timely and effective humanitarian assistance.
It called for action from government agencies, international organisations, and civil society groups to provide support to those affected.
The institute’s emphasis on the importance of humanitarian assistance and reflected its commitment to promoting human security and well-being.
