Edo Launches Digital Certificate For Public Student

The Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has unveiled a digital platform for issuing certificates and report cards to students in public schools in the state.
Speaking at the event, the state commissioner for Education, Dr Paddy Iyamu, said that the innovation was achieved through the commendable support from the Gates Foundation, which is working to improve the educational standard in the state.
He said that to improve the educational sector in the state, Edo Cert 2.0, a digital platform that enables students in the state to have seamless access to their certificates online, was recently unveiled.
Iyamu disclosed this while interacting with journalists in Benin, the state capital. Governor Monday Okpebholo’s led administration is committed to providing quality education to its students.
“For our 100 days in office, we have achieved quite a lot. We have just launched a technological platform where all Edo state students can go online and access their certificates.
“Before, you usually have to go and start checking for your results manually and we had cases of students misplacing their certificates and they would start all over, going to their different schools to look for copies of their manual collection.
“But all that will now be a thing of the past with the unveiling of Edo Cert 2.0 to ensure that our students have access to technology. All you need to do is put the students’ number on the platform and you print your certificates. So, these are one of the things we launched.” Iyamu said.
The commissioner also mentioned that, since the current governor’s administration, he and other Ministry of Education officials have visited three state senatorial districts to identify some of the infrastructure decay in schools.
“The governor immediately gave an order that the decayed and dilapidated school be renovated and reconstructed. In some cases, we have demolished many schools and reconstructed them because the governor is someone who matches words with actions. So, immediately after that directive was given, we swung into action and today, the story is different.
“We are working day and night tirelessly to ensure that the average Edo child has access
to education in a conducive environment.” Iyamu expressed.
The Permanent Secretary in the education ministry, Mrs Edith Ebomoyi, also added that the digital certificate would help secure records and reduce processing delays.
