Edo State has successfully conducted a Supportive Supervision exercise for Primary Healthcare facilities under the Immunization Plus and Malaria Progress by Accelerating Coverage and Transforming Services (IMPACT) Project. The initiative took place from July 14th to 18th, 2025.
The supervision was carried out in collaboration with the Edo State Government and the World Bank, aiming to ensure that Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) are adequately equipped with essential tools such as medical equipment, job aids, color-coded waste bins, and operational guidelines necessary for the delivery of high-quality healthcare services.
This initiative forms part of the state’s broader commitment to maintaining and enhancing standards in Primary Healthcare service delivery.
On Friday, July 18th, 2025, National and State Supervisors met with the Executive Secretary of the Edo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (EDSPHCDA), Dr. Coulson Oahimire Osoikhia, at his office in Benin City for a debriefing session. During the meeting, the team presented key findings from their field visits. Attendees included Dr. Iriah Akhere-Ogbesia (representing the National Team), Dr. Idemudia Osayomore, and Dr. Efeomon Eseigbe from the State Project Implementation Unit (PIU) for the IMPACT Project.
The supervisory team visited 27 facilities across five Local Government Areas (LGAs): Akoko-Edo, Ikpoba-Okha, Esan South-East, Orhionmwon, and Etsako West. The visits included mentoring and coaching sessions for healthcare workers, led by representatives from the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA), the State IMPACT PIU, and State Clinical Mentors.
One of the notable findings was the commendable availability of essential medicines and equipment at facilities supported through the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) and the IMPACT Project. The team also observed that healthcare workers had access to updated job guidelines, a result of capacity-building trainings conducted earlier in the year.
However, the team noted that job aids had not yet been visibly posted within some of the facilities and recommended that this be promptly addressed.
In response, Dr. Osoikhia thanked the team for their commitment and valuable feedback.
“Thank you for your diligent efforts. We will ensure that the job aids are printed and displayed across all facilities without delay,” he assured.
Dr. Osoikhia further emphasized the state’s commitment to excellence in healthcare delivery:
