The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 37 suspected internet fraudsters in a sting operation at Majesty Estate, located along NTA Road in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The operation, carried out by operatives from the Commission’s Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate, followed a distress call from residents concerned about suspicious activities within the estate.
According to EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, the arrests were made on Friday, August 1, 2025, during a targeted raid prompted by multiple complaints about “nefarious activities” believed to be linked to internet fraud.
“Following credible intelligence and a distress call from residents, our operatives visited the estate and arrested 37 suspected internet fraudsters,” Oyewale stated.
He also addressed a viral video circulating online, which claimed that EFCC operatives had harassed occupants and forcefully entered an apartment during the operation.
Oyewale explained that the apartment in question had been flagged during intelligence gathering, and operatives had properly identified themselves before requesting access. However, the occupants allegedly refused to open the door.
“For reasons best known to them, the residents refused to grant access despite proper identification and explanation from our operatives. One of the doors had to be forced open to conduct a lawful search. No arrests were made in that apartment, and no misconduct occurred,” he clarified.
Describing the video showing the broken door as “strange and unwarranted,” Oyewale emphasized that many residents of the estate expressed gratitude for the EFCC’s intervention and praised the agency for its swift response.
He further assured the public that the EFCC remains committed to upholding professionalism and due process in all its operations.
“The Commission will not tolerate any form of unprofessional conduct. Any operative found to have acted outside the law will face appropriate disciplinary action,” Oyewale added.
