Justice Ismail Ijelu of an Ikeja special Offences court has remanded one Ntai Bagshaw for allegedly defrauding accommodation seekers of N70 million naira.
On Thursday, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Bagshaw before the court for allegedly defrauding accommodation seekers of N70 million naira.
Bagshaw, alongside his company, Terraworks Ltd, was arraigned on a two-count charge of obtaining money under false pretences and stealing.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
EFCC Counsel Mrs Fadeke Giwa urged the court to remand the defendant at the correctional centre pending the hearing of his bail application.
Giwa also prayed the court for a trial date. Justice Ismail Ijelu thereafter remanded the defendant at the Ikoyi Custodial Centre.
The judge adjourned the case to May 13 for the hearing of bail application.
EFCC alleged that the defendant, with intent to defraud, obtained the money under the false pretence that it was for payment of a detached Duplex in Renat Axis located at Ogudu GRA, Lagos, a representation he knew to be false.
The prosecution also submitted that the defendant unlawfully converted the money to personal use.
According to the prosecution, the alleged offences violate Section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Fraud Related Offences Act No 14 of 2006 and Section 278(2)(b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos state, 2011.
