The Chairman of Etsako Central Local Government Area, Hon Cephas Yakubu Muhammed, has paid a condolence visit to the family of Mr Anani Harrison, who was killed by suspected kidnappers along the Fugar-Agenebode road on Thursday evening.
During the visit, Hon Cephas expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved family, lamenting the continued attacks on innocent lives despite efforts by the government at all levels to tackle insecurity.
He emphasised that life is sacred and must be protected, urging that no one has the right to take what only God can give.
He commended the Edo State Government for its ongoing efforts in combating insecurity, but appealed for increased intervention, particularly through the deployment of more security personnel along the Fugar-Agenebode axis.
According to him, incidents of kidnapping and murder on the route have become rampant and unacceptable.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies, the council chairman said that the local government would work closely with relevant operatives to bring a lasting solution to the crisis.
He stressed that the protection of life and property remains a core responsibility of any responsible government.
Hon Cephas encouraged the grieving family to remain strong for the sake of the widow and children left behind, assuring them that the government would do everything within its power to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure justice is served.
He disclosed that security agents have already launched search operations in surrounding bushes, and that some of the kidnapped victims have been successfully rescued.
In his appeal to residents, Hon Cephas urged communities to remain vigilant and to report any unfamiliar faces or suspicious movements promptly to security agencies.
The council chairman also visited the scene of the attack, where he met with officers of the security unit, Mobol 60, and appealed to them to intensify patrols on the road.
He noted that fear of abduction is now preventing many farmers and travellers from using the route.
