Ex-Rivers Council Chairmen Visits Fubara, Decries Emergency Declaration

In a remarkable show of solidarity, the immediate past chairmen of the 23 Local Government Areas in Rivers State visited the suspended governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, on Wednesday.
The former council bosses, during the visit, bemoaned the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State while praising Fubara’s outstanding achievements in office.
Recall that the chairmen loyal to Fubara were sacked by the Supreme Court, which declared their election illegal.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Ichemati Ezebunwo, the immediate past Chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area (PHALGA), who read a statement jointly signed by all the ex-chairmen, highlighted Fubara’s numerous pro-people projects, which they said have significantly contributed to the state’s stability and progress.
The chairmen also commended Fubara’s robust relationship with security agencies, which has ensured sustained peace and security in the state.
They expressed disappointment over the declaration of a state of emergency in the state, citing misinformation about Fubara’s compliance with the Supreme Court’s judgment.
“We, the immediate past Local Government Chairmen of Rivers State, stand in unwavering solidarity with Governor Siminalayi Fubara in thi s trying time.
“We await his directive on the way forward for the peace, progress, and stability of Rivers State,” the said.
The solidarity visit by 23 former council chairmen is seen as a significant development in the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State and is expected to further boost Fubara’s support base as he navigates the challenges around him.
