The Abubakar family in Kogi state has expressed grieve over the loss of their granddaughter and niece, Miss Emmanuella Yusuf, who died of cancer on October 31, 2025.
Emmanuella, aged 19 was a 200-level midwifery student at Saint Gerald School of Nursing and Midwifery, Kakuri, Kaduna before her demise.
A statement signed by Rev. John Abubakar, an uncle and guardian to the deceased on Monday, said Emmanuella was known for her kindness and dedication to helping others.
The statement stated that Emmanuella a native of Igala in Kogi State, fought a brave battle against cancer for several months, with family and friends by her side.
The statement reads, “In Lagos, Nigeria, on 31st October 2025, the Abubakar family said goodbye to their beloved granddaughter and niece, Miss Emmanuella O. Yusuf.
”She was just a young lady with big dreams, a midwifery student at Saint Gerald School of Nursing and Midwifery in Kakuri, Kaduna, where she was known for her kindness and dedication to helping others. Emmanuella was Igala, from Kogi State, the daughter of the late Commander (Navy) A.I. Yusuf and late Anne Yusuf (née Abubakar).
”For several months she fought a brave battle against cancer, and throughout this painful journey, Family and friends stood by her side every step of the way, sparing no expense on treatments, hospital visits, and care.
”Despite all the love, effort, and resources poured into her fight, the disease claimed her, leaving a deep void in the hearts of those who knew her.
”This story is a real testament to devotion and love to inspire others to cherish their loved ones and support those battling illness.
”Emmanuella leaves behind her uncle and guardian, Rev. Dr. John Abubakar, brother Abraham Yusuf, sister Anastasia Yusuf, and aunt Mrs. Delphine Harrison. The family is heartbroken, but they find solace in the memories of her bright spirit and the hope she brought to others.
”The family asks for privacy as they grieve, but they also welcome prayers and condolences from the community that embraced Emmanuella’s short but impactful life,” the statement added.
