The heart of Africa’s fashion capital beats louder today as the 8th edition of the GTCO Fashion Weekend kicks off at Plot 1, Water Corporation Drive, Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos. Organized by Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc (GTCO), the two-day celebration—running through Sunday, November 9—brings together some of the most influential voices shaping global and African fashion.
From its modest debut in 2016 to becoming one of the continent’s most anticipated creative gatherings, GTCO Fashion Weekend has transformed into far more than a fashion event—it’s a statement of Africa’s ingenuity, enterprise, and evolving identity. This year’s theme, “Fashion Is Freedom,” captures the spirit of liberation that fuels Africa’s creative economy: the freedom to express, to innovate, and to redefine global fashion narratives from an African perspective.
“Fashion goes beyond style; it embodies creativity, resilience, and the spirit of enterprise that drives our continent forward,” said Segun Agbaje, Group Chief Executive Officer of GTCO Plc.

“At GTCO, we recognize fashion as a powerful vehicle for innovation, employment, and cultural expression. Through the GTCO Fashion Weekend, we continue to create a global platform that amplifies Africa’s creative voice, empowers entrepreneurs, and showcases the limitless potential of our people.”
The opening day promises a dazzling display of design and dialogue. Runway showcases will feature a stellar lineup of designers, including Ituen Basi, The BAM Collective, Sevon Dejana, Mmuso Maxwell, Mowalola, and Priya Ahluwalia, each bringing their unique vision to the catwalk. Expect vibrant storytelling through fabric, bold reinterpretations of African heritage, and cutting-edge silhouettes that fuse local artistry with global sophistication.

Beyond the runway, the Business Masterclasses provide a deep dive into the mechanics of fashion success. International industry leaders will lead sessions on sustainability, digital retail, brand building, and creative entrepreneurship—equipping Africa’s next generation of designers with the tools to scale their businesses globally.
The Fashion Marketplace, another highlight of the weekend, pulses with energy as emerging and established brands connect directly with fashion enthusiasts, creating an immersive shopping and networking experience that blends commerce with culture.

Free to attend and open to all, GTCO Fashion Weekend invites Lagosians and visitors alike to witness the convergence of creativity and commerce, art and ambition. For registration and the full schedule, visit fashionweekend.gtcoplc.com.
