FG Committed to Youths’ Knowledge, Skills-driven Education – Mamman
By Uko Etim, Uyo The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to providing knowledge and skills-driven education to youths for rapid economic and industrial growth. Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, stated this in Uyo on Friday at the closing ceremony of the Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) Camp for girls. Mamman said the TVET camp aims to stimulate innovative and creative abilities in female students, encourage healthy competition, and sustain interest in skills acquisition and entrepreneurship through technical and vocational education. “The purpose of this camp is to stimulate innovative and creative abilities of female students and encourage healthy competition among them. “We are determined to produce students with certificates and skills, enabling them to be self-employed after graduation.Mamman emphasised that the 21st-century workforce requires knowledge and skills, driven by a globally competitive skilled workforce. “The government recognizes skills acquisition and development as pivotal to rapid economic and industrial growth, and the role of women in nation-building,” he added.The minister urged female students to improve, citing statistics showing decreased performance. He assured increased focus on skills development for female students to compete with male students. “I believe all the girls will return home transformed, based on what I observed during my earlier tour,” Mamman said.“Our nation’s future is assured, as we prioritize training our young ones and female youth.”
Mamman commended the African Development Bank for partnering with the federal ministry of education on the project.Akwa Ibom Education Commissioner, Mrs. Idongesit Etiebet, said the TVET camp aims to stimulate female students’ interest in technical and vocational education through relevant skills acquisition. She urged the girls to apply their knowledge and add value to themselves.Etiebet praised the minister for bridging the skills gap and creating an inclusive learning environment.
