The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Akwa Ibom Command, has carried out road interventions to curb road crashes in the state. The intervention was targeted at the failed portion of Atiku Abubakar Way by the flyover in Uyo metropolis.
Our correspondent reports that before the intervention, many motorists were seen struggling to pass the huge gully on the road, while some had to divert to another route to avoid being stuck.
Speaking with newsmen on Wednesday in Uyo, the FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Edward Odiete, noted that the intervention became necessary to ease motorists’ suffering.
“This pothole was so deep that any vehicle that comes here must slow down, creating a lot of traffic congestion on this axis, so we thought it wise to intervene. We had to approach Basse Engineering and Michel Ltd, and they came with their equipment to work on the affected portion.”
The Sector Commander hinted that the current road intervention is not the only one they have undertaken, stating that the Command had previously performed similar remedial work at Abak and Itu local government areas.
Odiete called on motorists to avoid speeding and apply caution while driving to reduce road crashes.
He assured that the Command would continue to do everything possible to minimize road crashes in the state.
The Project Coordinator of the Construction company, Xavier Utit, assured that asphalt will soon be added to the affected portion to make it stronger for motorists to use.
