Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic Namnai boat mishap that claimed three lives.
In a statement released in Jalingo by Emmanuel Bello, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Digital Communications, Kefas described the incident as deeply tragic and profoundly unfortunate.
The statement reads in part: “The governor is profoundly saddened by this incident, which was precipitated by the collapse of the Namnai bridge along the Jalingo-Wukari Federal Highway—an infrastructure that has remained neglected for over a year since its collapse.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that natural factors coupled with human miscalculations contributed to this disaster. Sadly, additional lives were lost due to the absence of life jackets.
“In moments like this, it is crucial to focus on solutions and a way forward. Once again, the governor prays for the repose of the souls of the departed and urges the bereaved to find strength during this difficult time. Dr. Kefas also assured the Federal Government, through relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), of the Taraba State government’s readiness to partner in the urgent reconstruction of the bridge—aimed at alleviating the hardships faced by our people and preventing such tragedies in the future.”
