Senator Monday Okpebholo, Edo State Governor, has pledged to improve learning facilities, hire more qualified teachers, provide good infrastructure, a conducive learning environment, and secure school environments throughout the state.
In January 2025, he declared a state of emergency in the educational sector and visited Edo Central schools to inspect ongoing renovations. At the time of his visit, the schools were in extremely poor condition.
The governor disclosed that he is working to change how people view the education sector. As a result, Okpebholo’s administration has significantly improved the infrastructure of public schools.
The Governor stated that in order to guarantee that schoolchildren receive a high-quality education, his administration has started building and renovating schools in each of the three Senatorial Districts and intends to hire more qualified teachers.
“School renovations are underway throughout Edo State’s three Senatorial Districts,” he said. After this, more qualified teachers will be employed to ensure our children get quality education. As a government, we are working to ensure we restore quality in our education system and ensure it is affordable.
“Our goal as a government is to see every Edo child attend a public school and get quality education that will woo more people to embrace public schools. My administration is working to ensure the education system in the State competes favourably with global standards.”
