The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd.), has commended Rivers Angels Football Club for retaining the President’s Federation Cup Women’s title.
Rivers Angels defeated Nasarawa Amazons 4-2 on penalties in the final match played on Saturday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, claiming the title for a record 10th time.
Addressing journalists after the victory, Ibas, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Ibibia Worika, expressed immense joy over the team’s performance.
“This is absolutely unprecedented. There’s nothing like it. We are proud as Rivers men and women that our girls can put up such a feat, and we are proud as a government,” he said.
He added that he had conveyed the administrator’s best wishes to the team before the match, assuring them of the state’s support and recognition should they emerge victorious.
Worika also announced the administrator’s pledge of ₦50 million to the Rivers Angels as a reward for their achievement. He further encouraged athletes from Team Rivers who won medals at the 2024 National Sports Festival to remain patient and coordinated, assuring them that the government was working to fulfil its promises to them.
The team manager of Rivers Angels, Mrs. Matilda Otuenne, attributed the victory to the players’ dedication and hard work.
Rivers Angels had previously won the Federation Cup in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2024.
