The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has successfully arrested 5,488 suspects and rescued 170 kidnapping victims nationwide over the past two months, marking significant strides in the country’s security efforts.
The suspects were apprehended for a range of crimes, including kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, homicide, and murder. In addition, the force recovered 316 assorted firearms, 2,884 rounds of ammunition, and 216 stolen or unregistered vehicles.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, revealed these figures yesterday during a strategic conference with senior police officials—Commissioners of Police and above—held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Building, Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The meeting focused on adapting to evolving security challenges, addressing complex threats, and reaffirming the Force’s commitment to safeguarding all citizens.
In a statement issued by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP praised the dedication and operational efficiency of senior officers, emphasizing the sacrifices made for public safety, which have contributed to these notable achievements.
“From June to July 2025, the Nigeria Police Force recorded the arrest of 5,488 suspects across various criminal offenses, recovered 316 firearms, 2,884 rounds of ammunition, and 216 stolen or unregistered vehicles, along with rescuing 170 kidnapping victims—some from extremely difficult terrains,” the statement read.
The IGP called on senior officers to renew their commitment to crime fighting, emphasizing that leadership is earned through lifesaving decisions that keep the nation safe. He urged commands and formations to showcase tangible operational results, demonstrating the police’s relentless efforts in ensuring public safety.
Furthermore, he stressed the importance of proactive responses to emerging threats, urging the force to leverage intelligence-led strategies and modern technology to enhance crime-fighting capabilities.
Reaffirming his administration’s dedication to reform, the IGP also highlighted plans to improve welfare packages for both serving and retired officers as part of ongoing institutional reforms.
The conference concluded with a renewed resolve among senior officers to implement the IGP’s policies on crime prevention, while promising continued grassroots engagement to ensure a safer and more secure Nigeria.
