…Urges Bold Action to End the Crisis

Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in 2023, has strongly condemned the escalating insecurity across Nigeria, warning that the nation must refuse to accept violence and chaos as its inevitable fate. Describing the situation as a “dangerous normalization of tragedy,” Obi emphasized that Nigeria’s future depends on decisive action to end the bloodshed.
Reacting on his verified X account yesterday to reports that 55 people were abducted in Zamfara State just days after a supposed peace deal in neighboring Katsina State, Obi highlighted the grim contradiction facing the nation. “This reflects the harsh reality that Nigerians live under the constant shadow of abductions, killings, and violent attacks,” he stated. “Insecurity has become a normal, everyday occurrence in Nigeria.”
He lamented the toll on families and communities, noting that behind every statistic are lives torn apart and dreams shattered. “We are now in a situation where abductions, killings, and violent attacks happen almost daily,” Obi said, warning that the country’s development is stifled under such conditions. “A nation cannot grow or prosper when its citizens live in perpetual fear. It’s as if the lives of Nigerians no longer matter.”
Questioning the government’s response, Obi criticized the silence and inaction in the face of relentless bloodshed, asserting that such indifference diminishes the dignity of every Nigerian. “The first duty of leadership is to protect life. Until we prioritize the safety of all citizens, meaningful progress remains unattainable,” he stressed.
Calling for urgent security reforms, Obi insisted Nigerians must refuse to accept insecurity as their destiny. “Our people deserve a country where peace is the norm, not an exception. Nigerians will not accept insecurity as their fate,” he declared, urging immediate and decisive measures to restore safety and stability nationwide.
