The Russian Federation has praised Nigeria’s role in the United Nations’ adoption of the resolution condemning Nazism.
He added that Nigeria’s recent romance with BRICS has created space for the development of stronger relationships with the Russian Federation.
During the photo exhibition held by the Russian Embassy to honor the Soviet People’s victory in the Great Patriotic War (1941–1945), Russian Ambassador to Nigeria, Amb. Andrey Podyolyshev, addresses reporters in Abuja.
The Soviet Union, which joined World War II two years after the conflict began in 1939, fought the Great Patriotic War. Tens of millions of people lost their lives in the biggest, bloodiest, and most destructive conflict in human history, which was primarily fought against the Nazis in Eastern Europe.
The photo exhibit focused on sharing information about the risks associated with the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany, and paying somber homage to the victims of the Second World War.
“I would like to thank Nigeria for supporting Russia’s side in the UN’s waiting for a resolution in combating the glorification of Nazism,” Podyolyshev stated.
Nigeria voted in favor of the resolution on combating the glorifying of Nazism and practices that led to modern forms of racism, discrimination, xenophobia, and intolerance during the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly and held in New York.
“We sincerely appreciate Nigeria’s cooperation, and we will continue to work with them internationally, particularly at the UN level.
“Nigeria recently joined BRICS, and I have no doubt that our opportunities for collaboration will only grow.”
Naturally, the bilateral context focuses on various global issues, and it is crucial that our cooperation continue to advance.
Regarding security-related matters, Podyolyshev emphasized the necessity of ongoing discussions regarding global security issues pertaining to areas surrounding Russia, Nigeria, and other global locations.
In order to guarantee a long-term solution to the problems of economic hardship and insecurity, he reaffirmed the necessity of countries cooperating closely in addressing global issues.

“The multiplolar world and the rights of the different countries to unite for a common interest is the main focus of our President.
“Naturally, the future world order is supposed to be constructed on these concern of the interest of different countries in multipolar world.
“African continent is virtually one of this polar genuine culture and policy, and historically pursuing its own interest in the world.
“We see this cooperation of African powers among others, Nigeria especially as one of the main priority of our foreign policy,” the ambassador stated.
With the USSR’s active participation, the United Nations was established as a result of the Great Patriotic War, which lasted from 1941 to 1945 and supported a new international order to stop future conflicts and preserve national dignity.
