One Person Killed As Suspected Cultists Engage In Supremacy Battle In Port Harcourt

A taxi driver whose identity is yet to be ascertained was killed on Sunday night, June 1, 2025, around Echue axis/ Illabouchi, Mile 2 Diobu, Port Harcourt, as suspected factions of Deygbam cult groups engaged in supremacy battle, we learnt.

We gathered that the taxi driver was killed during a shootout between suspected factions of Deygbam cult groups along Illabouchi, Mile 2 Diobu at about 11 pm on Sunday, which lasted over thirty minutes.

We further learnt that Police operatives later retrieved the corpse of the taxi driver from Azikiwe Police Division, Mile 2 Diobu, Port Harcourt, led by their DPO, who took the deceased to the station.

Our correspondent could not confirm if the deceased belonged to any of the cult groups engaged in a supremacy battle on Sunday night.

The shootout on Sunday night forced business owners and traders to scamper for safety as the rampaging hoodlums robbed passersby and shop owners.

When contacted by our reporter, the Spokesperson for Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe Koko, confirmed the incident and added that the investigation is ongoing.
