On Thursday, April 24, 2025, the Rivers State Police Command took into custody a man by the name Kelvin Okoro, who is accused of killing Miss Maureen Wecheonwu, a Reverend Sister, on March 26, 2025, in Aluu, Ikwerre Local Government Area.
Sources from the community reported that the suspect was captured on the morning of April 24, 2025, when Kingsley Wali, the leader of a local vigilante group called the ONELGA Security and Planning Advisory Committee (OSPAC), led his team to Mr. Okoro’s hiding place.
According to our sources, the suspect tricked the Reverend Sister into a secluded area, claiming he wanted to discuss a large debt he owed her, which he had not paid for a long time. It was there that he allegedly killed her and then fled the area.
The Public Relations Officer for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe Koko, confirmed the arrest and detention of the suspect. She stated, “Yes, I can confirm the arrest of the suspect. The Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has instructed that the case file and the suspect be sent to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Port Harcourt for a thorough investigation.”
