The residents of Rivers State’s Old Port-Harcourt Township in the Port-Harcourt city Local Government Area have peacefully protested and demanded that Siminialaye Fubara, the suspended governor, be reinstated so he can continue to lead the state effectively.
The demonstrators were observed holding placards with various inscriptions demanding that Rivers State’s emergency rule be lifted.
During the demonstration, Prince John Tamunokuro, the president general of the Port-Harcourt Township United Pressure Group, urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reevaluate the declaration of emergency in Rivers State.
Prince John Tamunokuro added that the president was not kept informed about the state’s problems, which resulted in the declaration of emergency.
He stated: “In light of the love that Jesus Christ showed on the cross during this Easter season, we implore President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reevaluate his emergency proclamation on Rivers State on March 18, 2025, which suspended the State Assembly and Governor Sir Siminialayi Fubara for a six-month period following the political crisis between the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and Governor Siminalayi Fubara.”
“We appeal to him to rescind his decision and recall our governor that we all voted for him to continue the good works he has started all over the state.”
In contrast to other states like Plateau, Benue, and others, he believed that Rivers State did not merit the declaration of a state of emergency.
In contrast, Tamunokuro supported Governor Siminialaye Fubara and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the general elections in 2027.
