The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) in Rivers State has exposed that Chief Magistrate Ejike K. George, who aired he had resigned, was actually compulsorily retired due to his absence from duty.
Dated April 15, 2025, Blessings Vic-Jumbo, known as the acting Secretary of the JSC in Rivers State, resolved the rumors trending on social media as in reference to Ejike K. George’s resignation, which he linked to a quasi-military administration managing Rivers State.
To specify, Vic-Jumbo stated, “The individual known as Ejike K. George (Chief Magistrate Grade II, retired) was compulsorily retired from service effective February 10, 2025, due to disciplinary issues related to his continuous absence from duty without leave from August 25, 2023, to December 2024.”
Subsequently , Ejike K. George appeared before a disciplinary panel, which found him at fault and made suggestions to the commission.
The commission provided Ejike K. George with the option to voluntarily retire within a specified timeframe or face compulsory retirement. Since he did not choose to retire voluntarily within that period, he was officially retired effective February 10, 2025, and this decision was communicated to him.
The JSC emphasized that this situation is not connected to the current political climate in the state. Ejike K. George’s attempt to associate his departure from service with political circumstances is described as a fabricated narrative intended to mislead the public, garner unwarranted sympathy, and attract undeserved support.
The acting Secretary of the JSC urged the public to remain informed and cautious.
It is worth noting that Chief Magistrate Ejike K. George, in a report seen yesterday addressed to the Chief Judge of Rivers State, cited quasi-military rule in Rivers as his reason for resigning after many years of service.
The acting Secretary of JSC further urged members of the public to be guided.
