Rivers Fire Incident: Police Confirms Death of Man, Says Female Lover in Critical Condition

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed a tragic fire incident that occurred at No. 11B Okoro Street, Choba, Port Harcourt, resulting in the death of a man and leaving a woman critically injured.

According to SP Grace Iringe Koko, spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, the incident, which has been circulating on social media, involved one Cynthia Chukwundah, a 300-level female undergraduate of the University of Port Harcourt, who allegedly set her boyfriend, Saint Sunny Amadi, ablaze during a domestic dispute. Amadi, a 32-year-old man from Elibrada Community in Emohua Local Government Area, sustained severe burns and was rushed to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH), where he later died from his injuries.

SP Koko disclosed that the police received a report of the incident at about 11:12 a.m., prompting detectives from the Choba Division to promptly visit both the scene and the hospital. She noted that the suspect, Cynthia Chukwundah, was also injured in the fire and is currently receiving medical treatment. She is said to be heavily pregnant with the deceased’s child.

Due to her critical condition, she has not been able to provide a full statement, but the police say she will be questioned once her health improves. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and a thorough investigation is underway to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

SP Koko assured the public that further updates will be communicated as more information becomes available.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, has urged the public to remain calm and peaceful, assuring that justice will be served in the matter.
