Rivers New CP Pledges Transparency.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bala Mustapha assumes office at the Rivers State Police command following the transfer of his predecessor.CP Bala Mustapha has pledged to be committed and transparent, noting the states economic powers should be protected.
CP Mustapha noted that his priority is to swiftly restore calm in the respective Local Government Areas where pockets of violence and arson attacks have been present, stating his commitment to work collaboratively with the state and non -state actors as well as all critical stakeholders to address these challenges head-on.
“I am aware that Rivers State, being one of the nation’s economic hubs, faces unique security challenges. From incidents of kidnapping, cultism, armed robbery, and oil bunkering to communal clashes and violent crimes, and more recently crises emanating from political interests, the complexities of maintaining law and order here require a proactive and strategic approach”.
“Upon assuming this office, I have reviewed the current security situation in the state, and I would like to outline my vision and strategies for ensuring the safety and security of our communities and people.” CP Mustapha further pledges to strengthen intelligence gathering in the state and work closely with local communities, traditional institutions, and other supportive security agencies to gather actionable intelligence to prevent crimes and respond swiftly to incidents. “Policing is most effective when the police have the trust and cooperation of the people they serve. I will emphasise building stronger ties between the police and the various communities across the state. We will work to regain public trust by ensuring our officers are approachable, professional, and respectful in their interactions. We are your police, and we are here to serve you. ” “In my leadership, I will not tolerate any form of corruption, misconduct, or abuse of power by police officers. Those found engaging in unprofessional behaviour will face the full wrath of the law. We are here to uphold justice, not to be agents of oppression. Rivers State has been plagued by issues of cultism, which often lead to violent clashes and needless loss of lives. We will intensify our efforts in curbing cult-related activities and work with youth groups, religious bodies, and civil society organizations to promote peace, education, and alternative livelihoods for the youths. CP Mustapha appealed to journalists in the state to continue to bridge the gap between the people and command. While he urge them to report accurately, objectively, and responsibly and to verify information, which helps reduce tension.
