Rivers Police Confirms Transfer of Okuru-Ama Kidnap Incident To SCIID

A male suspect who was apprehended by the Okuru-Ama Community security team on Thursday, the 6th,2025, after he allegedly kidnapped a twelve-year-old female child from Eleme and brought her to the community, has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department(SCIID), Port Harcourt.
The Spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe Koko, confirmed the transfer of the suspect, whose name is still under wraps for investigation purposes, to Newsnowng.
SP Koko said the suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department(SCIID) for a discreet investigation on the directive of Rivers State Commissioner of Police CP Olugbenga Adepoju.
Recall that the Community Development Committe (CDC) Chairman of Okuru-Ama community in Port Harcourt, Local Government Area of Rivers State, Chief Rowland Ibiewari had announced the rescue of a 12-year-old girl who was kidnapped in Eleme and brought to the community.
Mr Ibiewari stated that the swift response of local security personnel led to the arrests of the suspect and the safe rescue of the victim.
The Chairman of the Okuru-Ama Community Development Committee commended the security team’s prompt action and residents’ cooperation in uncovering the criminal act.
“After receiving information about the kidnapping, our security team immediately launched an investigation, conducting thorough searches and interviews.
“We were able to identify and apprehend the suspect, who has now been handed over to the Nigerian Police.”
Mr Ibiewari assured that the community security remain top priority and said decisive actions will always be taken to prevent such incidents.
