By Prince Woke

The Rivers State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to tackle cultism and violent crimes across the state.

In a statement released on June 17, 2025, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe Koko, disclosed that operatives attached to the Octopus Tactical Unit, acting on credible intelligence, arrested a notorious cultist and murder suspect.

According to the statement, on May 3, 2025, police operatives received information on the whereabouts of a well-known cultist identified as Aka “K1,” a member of the late 2Baba Iceland cult group. The group had been linked to the killing of the late SP Bako Angbashim, the former Divisional Police Officer of Ahoada Division.

Acting swiftly, the operatives stormed the suspect’s hideout in Ikata Community, Ahoada East Local Government Area, and arrested one Lovegod Goodluck, a male resident of the community. During the operation, the police recovered a locally made single-barrel gun and two live cartridges.

In a follow-up operation on June 13, 2025, at approximately 5:30 p.m., another suspect, Precious Olumini—who had previously escaped—was apprehended. An English-made pump-action gun and a locally made pistol were recovered from him.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to being members of the Iceland cult group, which has been responsible for a series of violent activities in the Ahoada East area. The suspects and recovered weapons are currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing as efforts continue to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang and recover additional weapons.

The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, has reassured residents of the command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property. He called on citizens to continue cooperating with law enforcement as the police intensify efforts to rid communities of violent criminal elements.
