Rivers Police Parades Fake Pastor

The Rivers Police Command paraded two alleged fake pastors apprehended by Youths in Rumunduru in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State on Thursday, January 23, 2005.
The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe Koko, who spoke to Journalists, disclosed that the Youth President of the Rumunduru community, Henry Worlu, apprehended the suspects on 20th January and handed them over to the Police. She said the suspects are Umoren Bassey and Elijah Aniete from Akwa Ibom State.
The Police Public Relations of the Command stated one cartridge, one sword, a fake naval passport, thousands of people’s pictures, one leg of a children’s shoe, a Police lanyard, different crosses, and spiritual materials. SP Koko said no live python or human skull was recovered.
One of the suspects, Umoren Bassey of the Church of God Apostolic Deliverance church in Eneka, Rumunduru, says he prays with spiritual materials as God directed.
“You can use water and oil to heal people. I have lived there for a long time. It is a land case. Three weeks after the court judgment, they asked me to quit. They used it to set me up. The community planted some of the materials they claimed they saw in my church. They searched my house without a warrant.
“I have been healing people and helping the community. I have lived there for 17 years. Some of the pictures you saw there are of my Son, and some are of my members.
“I Use a small casket or miracle life oil to pray for mad people.The mad person must be calm within three months. I use it to help the community people,” Mr Bassey said.
Another suspect, Elijah Aniete of Power of God House Ministry, disclosed that he was in Bassey’s church meeting with him when OSPAC and the community came and arrested him.
Henry Worlu, the Youth President of Rumundurun, stated in an interview with Journalists that he was told by the OSPAC commander in the community that Pastor Bassey was making sacrifices on the road.
“We went to his Church in the morning, and he denied it. He refused us entering until we opened his chamber and saw all these items.
“We did not see a python or human body. Nobody assaulted him; we just handed them over to the Police,’ he said.
