…Chief Judge Urges Full Adoption of New Web-Based Solution

Rivers State has rolled out a digital monitoring system to strengthen the administration of criminal justice, becoming the first state in Nigeria to deploy a comprehensive web-based and Android solution for real-time justice sector reporting.
The Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Amadi, represented by Justice Constance Green, made the call for full adoption of the platform at a one-day training and validation workshop on the Rivers State Criminal Justice Management System held in Port Harcourt.
The event was organised by the Rivers State Administration of Criminal Justice Monitoring Council.
He explained that the new system was designed to improve compliance with the Administration of Criminal Justice Law and provide seamless monitoring and evaluation across the justice sector. According to him, the platform allows institutions to capture and transmit real-time data without disrupting their internal processes.
Justice Amadi said the system would address long-standing bottlenecks, including delays in reporting, transportation constraints and loss of case information, and would support a more transparent, data-driven and accountable justice process.
The Executive Secretary of the Monitoring Council, Chief Magistrate Ilanye Brown, said the innovation followed years of recurrent challenges in tracking compliance across justice institutions. She noted that inadequate tools, weak reporting structures and frequent delays had hindered effective justice delivery.
Brown added that the new web and mobile applications would improve transparency, accountability and timely reporting, while also supporting proper documentation of criminal records and tracking of repeat offenders.
Participants at the workshop, including ACP Babatunde Jimoh of the State Criminal Investigation Department and human rights consultant Daniel Ejii, described the initiative as timely. They said it would help reduce file misplacement, strengthen monitoring and speed up justice administration.
They urged the state government to sustain the initiative, noting that Rivers State has taken a pioneering step in Nigeria’s push toward digital justice reform.
