Rivers Women March Against Political Injustice, Demand Restoration Of Democratic Order

In a bold display of solidarity and determination, some Rivers State women under the aegis of the Simplified Grassroot Ladies, Akuku-Toru Local Government Area Chapter, have taken to the streets of Abonnema, to condemn the emergency rule declared in the state and the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu by President Bola Tinubu.
The women, clad in all-black attire, marched through the streets, carrying placards with powerful messages that echoed their demands for peace, justice, and good governance. Their protest was a testament to the growing discontent among the people of Rivers State, who feel the emergency rule is an assault on democracy.
According to eyewitnesses, the women marched through the streets of Abonnema to the Abonnema Stadium, chanting slogans and singing solidarity songs. The women’s protest was also a call to action, urging the federal government to respect the people’s mandate and restore democratic order in the state.
The women’s demands were evident from their placards, which boldly stated, “Respect the People’s Mandate” and “Bring Back Our Governor.”
Before the protest, the women had gathered for their Monthly Prayer Meeting, themed “Arise & Shine” (Isaiah 60:1), as the women came together to seek divine guidance and blessings for their state and local government area.
Meanwhile, a former Chairman of the International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA, Rivers State, Barr Bio Data-Briggs, at a similar prayer meeting in the state, said they have come together to pray for divine intervention and peace in the state.
