The Sudanese government has vehemently denounced the campaign of dread and mass killing carried out by the terrorist Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia against civilian populations in and around El Fasher. The government has announced that about 450 civilians, prevalently within evacuated persons (IDPs), have been killed so far, including women and children, during these vicious assaults.
In a remark released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, the government claimed that the RSF militia has currently launched a series of fierce assaults on IDP camps—specifically Zamzam and Abu Shouk camps—as well as residential areas within El Fasher.
The comment read: “Approximately 450 civilians, mostly IDPs, have been murdered , including children and women, during these brutal attacks. Among the victims were nine humanitarian workers and medical staff. These odious actions represent a clear violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2736 and a severe breach of international humanitarian law, especially the Geneva Conventions, which protect civilians in armed conflicts.”
The Ministry articulated condolences to each victims’ families and wished for a swift recovery of the wounded.
The statement further advised regional and international organisations, as well as the global community, to strongly denounce these brutalities and support the people of Sudan during this difficult time. It also reemphasised the demand for the RSF militia to be officially recognised as a terrorist group, and called for its regional backers to be held accountable and cease supplying the militia with weapons, ammunition, and mercenaries. The government advised that any clmency or exemption would only embolden the militia to continue its destructive campaign in Darfur.
The Sudanese government priority its commitment to collaborating with regional and international partners to lift the unlawful siege imposed on El Fasher by the RSF militia, ensure the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid, and protect civilians through all available measures.
In an interview with journalists in Abuja, Almoiz Mohamed, the media officer at the Sudanese Embassy in Nigeria, condemned the RSF’s ongoing attacks: “For the past three days, the rebel Rapid Support Forces have bombarded with heavy artillery and launched brutal ground attacks targeting Zamzam and Abu Shouk camps. Preliminary reports indicate that at least 450 people have been killed, including nine World Relief workers executed in their offices at the Zamzam camp. Thousands more have been injured, many critically.”
Mohamed added, “Tens of thousands of people have fled toward El Fasher on foot, facing dire humanitarian conditions due to a lack of basic necessities like food, water, and medicine.”
He further claimed that the RSF’s attacks on displacement camps around El Fasher were acts of revenge for the militia’s recent defeats at the hands of Sudanese armed forces and joint forces, who have successfully repelled over 200 RSF assaults on the outskirts of the city over the past year. Mohamed asserted that these attacks on IDP camps and civilians by the RSF militia, supported by regional and international backers—particularly the UAE—are blatant criminal acts.
Although , he voiced assurance which the Sudanese Armed Forces would lift the blockadep on El Fasher and route the RSF militia.
