In the early hours of Tuesday, April 22nd, a police inspector, Maxwell Zabu, who is said to be a security aide to Victor Ihunwo, former Chairman of the PortHarcourt Local Government Area of Rivers state, shot himself dead at the former Mayor’s residence on Eagle Island in PortHarcourt. We acquired knowledge.
We learned that the incident was reported at the Eagleisland Police Post, which is part of the Azikiwe Police Division and can be found at Illabouchi, Mile 2 Diobu, Port Harcourt.
We also learned that Azikiwe Police Division investigators had visited the scene to conduct a preliminary investigation.
Grace Iringe Koko, the Public Relations Officer for the Rivers State Police Command and Superintendent of Police (SP), confirmed the incident.
As of press time, information from the Rivers State Police Command headquarters indicates that the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP OlugSP Koko, has stated that the police officer is suspected of committing suicide, but an investigation is underway to determine what happened.
